Eight years ago, Lifeline kinda reinvented the text adventure genre in such a modern and smart way that it birthed a semi-new genre, with sequels, spin-offs and lots of other stuff, including the beautiful Bury Me, My Love. Then they tried milking the cow and it didn’t go well. A few weeks ago, I realized that in 2022, after years of silence, they launched Lifeline: Beside You, a new episode in the main storyline. I instantly played it and I loved it: the messages mechanic is still perfect, the writing is in top form and the idea of letting you communicate separately with the two main characters is sufficiently fresh. I would love for it to continue.
