Impressive, Fun Early Platformer That Is Ahead Of Its Time

Look: 8/10 Very impressed with these sprites, this level design, and well-executed cute theme. enter image description here

Sound: 8/10 Yay an "actual song" for background music. Does get technically annoying, but it is fun, fits the theme, and not bad for its year for sure.

Play: 7/10 Wow this is exciting. Feels like the first true platform game. The controls definitely could use some tweaking, but hey, that is to be expected in '82. Certainly better than Pitfall or Donkey Kong controls heh. I like that you can jump diagonally, albeit in a very rudimentary and clunky way. It's fun doing that dramatic kick against enemies, with impressive collision masks. In the end, like a lot of even later platformers, part of the fun of the game is learning the game's unique collision masks and jump mechanics. So, even tho the jump mechanics were a bit rough, it was fun getting to know them well enough to get through level 1. But it didn't have that smoothness that made me push through, say, Super Mario World and Crash 3 as I learned their collision masks and jump mechanics. Instead, I decided to be done after completing Level 1 :-p Undeniably fun tho, and …

(Also, silly that you fall even when you step off, say, the moving platform when it's above the next platform. Pro-tip always jump even when it is illogical :-p and jump kicks are quite odd how they work, sometimes you will fall from them when in a gap, other times they almost feel like a double jump, and other times not even sure what they're doing ha)

Feel: 8/10 All around impressive game. Sad how little info there is online (in English, at least). With the song going and the advanced gameplay and the high-quality graphics, this felt much later than '82.

Attachment: 7/10 Impressive as it is, and as much as I say I like platformers, early platformers have just never been my thing. This blows Donkey Kong and its ilk out the water, mind you, and this would be my go-to early platformer--but again, it's a genre I doubt I will be returning to regularly so it's hard to give any higher a rating. Maybe if it keeps lingering in my mind and I have a drive to get further will I change this! Otherwise, play this if you're curious about early platformers outside of the Donkey Kong paradigm.
