Sokpop Marathon #3

These ratings are very subjective and the asking price is being considered.

The Best

  • King of the Sandcastle: One click card game. Perfect for playing while watching videos. Especially enjoyable in short sessions. Rating 4/5
  • Kraken’s curse: Explore an archipelago, find treasures and fight skeletons as a pirate. Short adventure, I enjoyed this a lot. Rating 4/5
  • Sok-stories: Creating tiny stories is very fun, especially if you have someone to try out what you made. Very simple. Rating 4/5

The Good

  • Skidlocked: Biking through lanes of cars and obstacles is fun. Decent amount of races. Especially fun for highscore hunters. Rating 3.5/5
  • Rook: Be a bird, build your nest. Once I figured out how to avoid getting shot, I enjoyed it a lot. Very short. Rating 3.5/5
  • Capy Hoky: Ice-hockey with animals. Unbalanced characters, missed potential. Nonetheless, very fun with a friend in short rounds. Rating 3.5/5
  • Pear Quest: Enjoyable little puzzle adventure on an island. Only big complaint I have is that you need a magnifying glass to see anything. Rating 3.5/5
  • Pipo Park: Play around in a small park. Fun trying different things and you can kick everything. A bit clunky. Rating 3/5
  • Ollie & …

  • Ollie & Bollie Outdoor Estate: Tiny sandbox where you restore your estate. Coop recommended, AI is stupid. Would have been 4/5 but had to restart three times due to crashes/bugs so... Rating 3/5
  • Hoco Poco: Magic multiplayer duels. Awesome spell casting idea but spell drawing a bit imprecise. If you have friends to play with: Rating 3/5
  • Pupper park: Be a dog and do dog things in a park. Fun to explore for a bit but the camera is extremely nauseating. Rating 3/5
  • Bandapes: Rhythmic battles with apes. Kind of fun, very cool idea. However, no strategy needed, just spam attack melody. Gets repetitive. Rating 3/5

The Bad

  • Doler: Explore a dark maze as a mouse to find food. I love the idea but the execution is extremely boring. Walking around aimlessly, the multiplayer aspect (leaving directions) is dead. Rating 2.5/5
  • Featherfall: Souslike rpg adventure playing a bird. I didn’t enjoy this much. Everything is very slow and sluggish. Clunky combat. Rating 2/5
  • Zoo Packs: Supposedly, like Fire Emblem with animal warriors. Crashes on load up, so I can’t tell. Rating 0/5

Sokpop Marathon #2

These ratings are very subjective and the asking price is being considered.

The Best

  • Pilfer: Fun thief simulator. Trying to get as much loot as possible without being caught is enjoyable. Rating 4/5
  • Dino game: Stranded on an island. Really fun figuring out the different crafting possibilities to get back to your ship. Plus, cute dinosaurs. Rating 4/5
  • Dr. Umgebung's School of Life: A tiny ecosystem to play around with. Really fun once you've figured out how it works. Rating 4/5
  • Llama Villa: Tiny Sims with Llamas. Many quality of life features are missing but I enjoyed it a lot. Rating 4/5

The Good

  • Bloks: Tetris with god mechanics. I enjoyed figuring out which blocks do what. Sadly, your run is entirely up to luck. Rating 3.5/5
  • Goblet Cave: Enjoyable cave exploration. Save up for equipment to escape safely. Not much to see in the caves. Rating 3.5/5
  • Hoppa: Frogger with long jump mechanics. Very interesting idea. Enjoyable but extremely short. Rating 3/5
  • Kart kids: Fun wobbly racing physics. Choose 60 racers, it's mayhem. Very little content, only one track. Rating 3/5

The Bad

  • Frog struggles: Beetle turf wars. Very fun concept and mechanics. Sadly, it's buggy …

The Bad

  • Frog struggles: Beetle turf wars. Very fun concept and mechanics. Sadly, it's buggy as heck and I couldn't finish it. Rating 2.5/5
  • Grey Scout: Very decent stealth game, but I usually don't enjoy stealth at all. Rating 2/5 but if you enjoy stealth probably 3.5/5
  • Huts: Build huts in the forest. Nothing snaps together, everything has to be painstakingly aligned. There's better games. Rating 2/5
  • Spider ponds: Do spider things. I love the idea but most of the time you die because of the controls. Frustrating. Rating 2/5
  • New Colony: Start your own ant colony. Frustratingly clunky controls, stupid AI that makes it almost unplayable. There's a good idea here somewhere. Rating 1.5/5
  • Tomscape: Supposedly, an online rpg where you can slap things/people. Can't tell, it opens to a black screen. Probably would be dead anyway. Rating 0/5

Sokpop Marathon #1

Most games from the Sokpop Collective aren't in the Grouvee database yet. Since I don't want to bury the nice people taking care of this community under 100 new custom entries, here's my summary of the games I've played so far.

These ratings are very subjective and the asking price is being considered.

The Best

  • Aran's Bike Trip: Less a game and more of a google maps kind of experience. Beautiful landscapes. It felt surprisingly wholesome. Rating 4/5
  • Bombini: Be a bee, collect pollen, expand your hive and fight spiders. Very simple, very short but I enjoyed it a lot. Rating 4/5
  • Clutchball: Dodgeball with waves of opponents. Surprisingly addicting, very fun. Rating 4/5

The Good

  • Penguin Park 3D: Take care of penguins, earn money and reach a population of ten. Frantic at times but I enjoyed it. Would have loved more content for this one. Rating 3.5/5
  • Visser: Find bait, catch fish. Fun to explore for a bit but lacks content. Rating 3/5
  • Wamu Wamu 2: Use three tools to clean fruit. Very short and quirky but fun. Rating 3/5
  • Klym: Climb buildings and find ducks. Fun as soon as the controls are mastered. Rating 3/5 …

  • Klym: Climb buildings and find ducks. Fun as soon as the controls are mastered. Rating 3/5
  • Post Cards: Three short minigames. Enjoyable but incentive to replay is missing. Rating 3/5
  • Disc Party: Golf but with a frisbee. Online servers are dead. Singleplayer is fun for a bit but gets repetitive fast. Would be better if you have a friend to play with. Rating 3/5

The Bad

  • Botanik: Grow plants, visit other players' greenhouses. Plants grow extremely slow, nothing to do except water sometimes. Other players' plants all dead. Fun idea, lacking execution. Rating 2.5/5
  • Kamer: Small room to explore, not much to do or look at. Just a few minutes of mild enjoyment. I accidentally threw down the coffee so that was nice. Rating 2.5/5
  • Moeras: You can walk around with a bow. One enemy to fight, which was kind of fun. But only one? Nothing to explore, everything is empty wasteland. Rating 2.5/5
  • Blue Drifter: Be a bounty hunter. I didn't enjoy this. It felt too dependent on luck whether the target was surrounded by enemies or not. I have bad luck apparently. Rating 2/5
  • Jut: Collect trash/items on a beach. Character moves agonizingly slow, gets boring fast. Rating 2/5
  • Driftwood: Walking Sim at the North Sea. There's nothing to find, nothing to look at. Just a tiny, empty area. Rating 1.5/5
  • Oh Crab!: Supposedly, you can play a fish and watch things unfold. Can't tell, it always freezes in the first few seconds. Seems to be a widespread problem. Rating 0/5

Does anyone know and play the games from the Sokpop Collective?

I've been supporting their patreon for years because I like the look of their games. Only recently I noticed that I haven't actually played any of their 100+ titles and decided to dive in.

I'm around 10 games deep and so far it's a mixed bag. I mostly started with their older games. They're very short and simple. Some I really enjoyed, some not so much, and some don't even work right anymore. They have a lot of interesting ideas though. Looking forward to more of those.
