Oh, boy. This was one of the RPGs that I really liked as a kid - along with the PS1 era Final Fantasies, Shadow Hearts Covenant, Dragon Quest VIII, and Legend of Dragoon - among others. Not to mention it's a SMT spin-off. So I was expecting a really good experience.

There are too many problems though. The game is hilariously short - I finished it in 13 hours, and that's including idle time and time spent on some side content. Dark Version is supposed to be the harder of the two, but I spent the later half of the game almost completely on auto-battle (including the final boss). The music is... well, it's not bad. The story and characters are almost all dull, flat, and boring, and at times it feels more like a prolonged fetch quest than, you know, a game.

The demon and fusion mechanics are nice - but unfortunately not enough to save the game from the above flaws. It's still not a bad game - I did enjoy it somewhat - but I definitely can't see myself replaying it, or ever playing the Light Version.
