Great Look And Sound Accompany Tough, But Fun Gameplay
This review is for the Arcade version

Preliminary: I've actually never seen the movie :-X but right off the bat beautiful, excellent colors and sprites, and good tunes. enter image description here

I'm loving everything about this so far except maybe the time factor. I love the world map and this cheesy smile lol enter image description here

Welp it's my first level as the sword wielder and uh I def preferred playing as the magic/projectile guy. In general this first level with the sword guy isn't as fun. The level design/enemy chaos was more frustrating, the music wasn't as good, and it felt like his changing directions was slower. I always look for quick direction changes/last-second-dodges-and-shooting in arcade games. But yesssss to this part where the projectile/Willow-I-think? guy is dramatically driving the horses lol enter image description here

Day 1

I am grateful you can hit away enemy projectiles. It's getting so hard tho that normally I would drop such a game, but I suppose there are only 2 levels left and it's okay to abuse savestates at this point heh. Lol at their faces when sledding enter image description here

But Stage 5 was a lot better, especially since I could choose to play as Willow. Plus that boss was sweet and I liked the graphic when its head was severed …

Great song for what I assume is the final level. Omg with one hitpoint left, I have finished it. Great music for the ending tho the Look was just repeated images from earlier heh. Oh nvm then they had this actual ending animation with the nice green field in the end, complete with voice too, and then the cheesy finale :-p enter image description here

Look: 9/10 Seems really darn good for its time.

Sound: 8.5/10 Nothing striking or emotional, but very good tunes.

Play: 7.5/10 Technically too hard but with savestates, it was still fun.

Feel: 8/10 I love games based on movies, even when I haven't seen the movie :-p

Attachment: 8/10 I likely will replay this, and if I ever fall in love with the movie and/or replay this game, this'll definitely go up! Too bad the sword wielder parts drag it down. A game of just the Willow parts would be top notch.

Overall: 8.2/10

Completion: Main Story

giopep's review of Willow

The Willow coin-op from Capcom is an old school licensed game, that takes the setting, aesthetics and plot from the movie and shove them in a pretty standardized format, that mixes up elements from a bunch of previous Capcom games. But it does it well! Visually it’s lovely. The film’s plot is very well implemented, with lots of characters, scenes, settings, storylines accurately recreated. And it’s a nice platform/action game, quite demanding but not as cruel as some other arcade games of that era, particularly if you are careful in managing power ups. Conversely, if you don’t manage them decently, you will be destroyed.
