Smurf to the rescue! Gargamel has already captured 4 Smurfs, Jocky Smurf, Greedy Smurf, Brainy Smurf and Smurfette. To free them you will have to smurf the Angry Smurfs and BUZZ flies before smurfing the mountain by sled, then smurfing the maze mine galleries, smurfing on the back of a stork to smurf Azrael and finally smurf Gargamel from his mansion! Good Smurf!

In Many Ways a 3 Star Game, But My Goodness That C64-Style Music!
This review is for the Game Boy version

Preliminary: (I'm playing the original release, which was for Gameboy). It's all quite redundant and innocuous. I am flying through these levels, some mediocre collision masks, otherwise solid platforming for a GB game. It's got Dash/Run and you can bounce on enemies so I'm content. The real highlight is the C64/Commodore-esque music. Haven't heard this vibe in a while and it's a nice breath of fresh air. I didn't even know Gameboy could do these sounds! (Lol I had to edit this. It said fresh of breath air lol)

It's a bit slippery in controls, esp with Dash/Run, but otherwise it is a raelly solid, hooking platformer. The tunes really are excellent, to boot. It's challenging yet reasonable.

Day 2

Ugh this was going so well. Why did Act 7 and 8 have to change things up from platforming. (Well, at least Act 8 with the minecart had platforming in it)

Ugh and now tihs sled riding is bogging it down too. Definintely no higher than a 4 star due to these unnecessary levels.

There is a lot graet about this game (fast fun platforming, amazing music, addictive) and also a lot bad abuot this game (some slipperiness, bad implementation …

Look: 7.5/10 Run of the mill, but pretty impressive for Gameboy I suppose

Sound: 9/10 I didn't realize how much I had missed good C64 music

Play: 8/10 Some definite faults and headache levels, but overall I was fully hooked from start to finish.

Feel: 8/10 First half is top notch fun Feel, overall it's still a great Feel and the music is enough to warrant at least an 8

Attachment: 7.5/10 This would make the list of Gameboy platformers to replay mostly thanks to the music... not sure how often I will return to specifically Gameboy platformers tho

Overall: 8/10

Completion: Main Game

Playtime: ~50 mins

Ruairi's review of The Smurfs
