Had kind of a revelation last night while playing. It's not worth it, probably. The game crashes constantly, is loaded with little kids, doesn't do a service to the Dungeons & Dragons universe ("go kill 20 zombies...IN NEVERWINTER!"), and requires a really large sum of money to really play. Every single aspect of the game is seeded with F2P traps. You died? Well you can spend real money on a scroll of resurrection (or even more for a MASS scroll of resurrection!) Want to open that treasure chest? Just pay some money and you can!
I will admit that I have probably spent thousands on World of Warcraft. The game, the expansions, the monthly fee, the occasional character transfer. But there's something to be said for knowing that your money gives you access to 100% of the content. You can be secure in the knowledge that an extra $5 here and there won't give you some boost or crafting bonus that you hadn't expected.
Is Neverwinter a bad game? Not really. It's OK. It's probably more fun if your friends play. It's just hard to justify playing when, right around the corner looms the necessity to spend small sums of cash on large sums of bonuses, keys, and daily chances at loot.
