Does anyone playing this? I've been around Neverwinter games for years, but never really played any. Oh.. I did play Perfect World back in-like 2010? enter image description here

I've decided to put a real effort into this finally, after trying it at launch and never going back. (No reason; just doing different things). The D&D license is compelling, as I want to play (again; haven't really since my teens in the '80s) IRL and want to be more familiar with all of it.

Had kind of a revelation last night while playing. It's not worth it, probably. Every single aspect of the game is seeded with F2P traps. …

Had kind of a revelation last night while playing. It's not worth it, probably. The game crashes constantly, is loaded with little kids, doesn't do a service to the Dungeons & Dragons universe ("go kill 20 zombies...IN NEVERWINTER!"), and requires a really large sum of money to really play. Every single aspect of the game is seeded with F2P traps. You died? Well you can spend real money on a scroll of resurrection (or even more for a MASS scroll of resurrection!) Want to open that treasure chest? Just pay some money and you can!

I will admit that I have probably spent thousands on World of Warcraft. The game, the expansions, the monthly fee, the occasional character transfer. But there's something to be said for knowing that your money gives you access to 100% of the content. You can be secure in the knowledge that an extra $5 here and there won't give you some boost or crafting bonus that you hadn't expected.

Is Neverwinter a bad game? Not really. It's OK. It's probably more fun if your friends play. It's just hard to justify playing when, right around the corner looms the necessity to spend small sums of cash on large sums of bonuses, keys, and daily chances at loot.

I'm really not sure why I'm playing this. But I am. It's not very good. The F2P model here is really insidious in some ways. That being said, I'm still having some kind of fun with it.
