Fully finished story:

  • Defeated final boss and reached end credits.

Final thoughts: This game is superior to Shattered Crystal for being both more polished and actually feeling like a Sonic game. All of the levels are designed to be more linear but still offer alternate paths for exploration. Movement is rather fluid with the constant boost + enerbeam swinging mechanics. The visual style is more detailed and unique looking like a modern Donkey Kong game. All cutscenes are now fully animated, and I found some of the slapstick humor to actually be quite funny.

Unfortunately the music is still forgettable, but at least the synths better fit the game than Shattered Crystal's uninspiring orchestral backdrop noise. I don't think this game will be very memorable compared to other Sonic titles, but at least this is a neat & polished unique take.
