Using cabinet mounted guns you and another player blast away the Aliens in an attempt to save the prison planet. You are also given a limited number of grenades to use when the going gets tough. The gameplay is very close to Sega’s other lightgun games from the period such as Gunblade and Jurassic Park. This game was based on the movie of the same name.

Game over man, game over! But not for me!

This arcade game is very fun and I recommend it to anyone who has MAME!

The good

  • The graphics are very well done. The Xenomorphs look intimidating despite the vibrant colors and their animations are faithful to the movies, the scenarios may look blank but they do give the atmosphere of being stuck in a backwater planet
  • I love how the game makes you feel like a badass. You feel like a supersoldier that can actually take down the Xenomorphs despite being outnumbered
  • The enemies are all distinct. You have Facehuggers who try to grapple you and shoot acid, Aliens who try to ambush you, robots that fight just like you, turrets, etc
  • The boss fights are varied and well made. You fight a giant Facehugger who tries to one-shot you with its grab, a super tank that shoots projectiles, a giant alien that fights like the normal aliens, a chestbuster the size of a human being and tries to ambush you, the Runner Alien from the movie, a cyborg who fights exactly like you do aka he shoots and throws explosives
  • The music is good, it is not memorable but it keeps you pumped and always fits with the …

  • The music is good, it is not memorable but it keeps you pumped and always fits with the situation at hand. If there is no action it calms down slightly, if there is a boss fight it ramps up the intensity

The bad

  • The ending is a dissapointment, you are betrayed by Weyland Yutani
  • The game's difficulty is insane. I believe it is impossible to beat the game without dying once, Facehuggers and Aliens will always attack you from opposite sides from the screen so you end up getting hit from one or the other, bosses will sometimes "Superman walk" your bullets and hit you anyway

This is an extremely fun shooting game, but nothing else to write home about

I remember playing this on free play mode at Nickelcade with a friend years ago. Definitely worth a play if you don't have to keep pumping in nickels or quarters.
