Cool Spot is a mascot for 7 Up, introduced in 1987. During this time, the red spot in the 7 Up logo was anthropomorphized: given arms, legs, a mouth, and sunglasses. British video games developer Virgin Interactive's American studio produced a platform game starring the 7 Up Spot, entitled Cool Spot.

Dang, I'm not sure even the charm of the famous and beloved character Cool Spot can salvage the frustrating level design and at times clunky or otherwise unresponsive feeling controls of this game.

Beat on Normal. I started off on Hard but did not get past the first level because Hard required collecting 90% of the spots. I was already not really into this game because platformers are not high on my preferred games to play. I especially dislike collectathons, so I gave up and restarted on Normal where there was a much more reasonable requirement of 60%. Hard also had a ton of cheap enemy placement which required some serious save state scumming. I did not bother to collect enough for any bonus games; I just wanted to go from point A to B killing everything that moved. The shooting was my favorite part of the game. The core design and mechanics were well done, though the level design was repetitive. The worst aspect of the game was the platforming because the view could not be panned up, left or right so there were a lot of blind jumps. It was also very annoying to miss a jump and fall down to a death or significant loss of progress, and being hounded by the time limit. Overall a surprisingly well made game for a glorified soft drink advertisement.

Used to play this as a kid. I don't think I ever beat it but I did today on easy. I guess you are supposed to get all the letters "UNCOLA" play on hard to "really" beat it but fuck that.

(Genesis version.) This was an interesting platformer to play through. It reminded me a lot of the Toy Story game from that era, since your character (Spot?) is the size of a small toy. It also reminded me of Vectorman, in terms of controls and general style of gameplay. The feel of this one is pretty bizarre. You walk incredibly slowly, but you jump kind of fast--but always in this strange arc-like manner. Getting the hang of the actual platforming takes some time. The game also requires you to find a number of collectibles, many of which are hidden behind the scenery. It feels random what objects you can go behind, and which ones are walls you can't pass through.

The enemies, sound effects, and music are surprisingly kind of cute. I like the little squeaky noises your character makes when he gets hit, and the way your health meter is just a sticker of the character slowly unpeeling from the screen is also pretty delightful. I also liked that the goal of the game is just to save a bunch of clones of yourself. (Who caged them all up anyways?) Overall this is an okay game. The controls are definitely a hurdle to overcome, but once you have it down the game is a decent little romp to go through.
