it took me three years to beat this game! I dont think i've ever played a FPS game with such a delayed play cycle as this. this one requires a certain mood. I found it very much worth playing, (as I love the series) and am already looking to play another!

played around with the car spawner and somehow managed to start driving the ZAZ 965 with the car door removed and had a shotgun out, that was fun! (can't figure out how i did it!) apparently the game will glitch out and you can have a weapon out while driving....

Overall this is actually really good. Improved nicely. Quite a good free, fan game.
The nice big world and constant living and breathing spawning of items/ammo, enemies and artifacts from the AI life system gives it a fallout 4 vibe, as you do your day to day artifact farming.

the game has more key binds than most FPS. You'll need to tweak them and learn them so you get used to them. I bound the keys on my MMO mouse to do things like banadages, medits and got intimate with the rest of my binds. Also keep your eyes peeled for a car to store your stuff in. But keep it away from battle!
STALKER is still a 2008-ish game and visually this shows. It's also a lil janky and feels dated in some ways and it doesn't really fit in same league as any modern FPS or third person shooter.
The main visual chagrin is the light contrast. Outdoor scenes look bleak but are good with lots of vegetation and detail but indoor scenes are a problem. Note how shadows have hard edges when near a highly radiant light source
This is a good one to play on the oculus quest. My system can run this at good frames and find this immersive. Not for everyone but its a great replacement for the inevitable post fallout 4 boredom and anyone who liked the atmosphere of DX:HR or tone/background of metro 2033. 
EDIT: I picked this back up and enjoying it. This was first game i install on this machine and it would crash bad and now it works! flawlessly with not a single crash! I have since played three versions of this game and it seems the current build 1.4007 is quite stable. You will probably want to enable developer mode for this game for the conveniences of it. The weapons pack for it on moddb is REAL good. I am also playing with the carry weight mod and item spawner (for vehicles, although haven't actually 'cheated' with this as you tend to find enough vehicles)
I can't say I've played another game like the STALKER series that really provides the same experience. The original true looter shooter for those who like to snipey snipey those who try to cheeki breeki!
