SuperEffective's review of Close Your Eyes

You play as some sort of hooded white (blob?) figure running away from his execution through a series of mazes. The actual goal of the game is not clear, but you receive some sequences and suggestions to your past that appears to tell you where you hope to get back to. In the meantime, you are also involved in a game show with a host that makes occasional appearances to speak with you.

It is a horror game, but mostly relies on a few jump scares and chase scenes to get the horror factor in. The few puzzles that are in there are not difficult with an exception to the train, which could come off as tricky to some. The first part of the maze is in an underground subway system, where you have to stumble your way through in order to end up at a house. The house will be the second half of the maze, where you take more action in order to progress forward.

This game was bizarre and, in my opinion, pretty messy. I assume this is the first game produced by the creator, which gives an exception to first-timers working their way through game development, …

This game was bizarre and, in my opinion, pretty messy. I assume this is the first game produced by the creator, which gives an exception to first-timers working their way through game development, but the game play had a series of commonly used gaming sequences thrown together in a hobbled fashion. The movement is not smooth and the exploration of your character's past is jumpy. I do not think the story in the game is necessarily bad, but I saw a lot of potential for improvement. It appears that you can receive 8 different endings; somehow, I managed to get the 7/8: Totally Canon Ending, which made my experience even more bizarre.

I would not play this game unless it was free and you have a spare two hours for something relatively easy to putz around with. However, if you are looking for similar styled horror game that are more complete and enjoyable, I would seek out games such as Ib, Witch's House, or even Trick & Treat.
