Great Early Arcade Adventure That Suffers From The Usual Early Adventure Game Frustrations
This review is for the ZX Spectrum version

Look: 8/10 Such good Speccy colors and adventure setting. The character sprite has that Atic Atac classic Speccy look, but the plants and other setting objects have their own unique look. E.g., enter image description here

Sound: 8/10 Wowwww, greattttt music. Tho gets repetitive, still top notch

Play: 6/10 Finally, an arcade adventure game with a menu mechanic that makes sensssse and isn't so overly convoluted. So easily done on the joystick. I had read about that but was worried I was getting my hopes up like often happens with these pre-Zelda action-adventures. enter image description here The jump mechanic is surprisingly solid too (well, responsive... solid isn't the word since if you're up against a wall you can't jump diagonally etc, but the quirks are quite quick to figure out and get used to). I was nervous there would be a bunch of awkward controls and that the Instructions I found were misleading, but at least it proved to be straightforward with joystick! Phew! Now here's hoping it's not too big/too long, since it's 128k they often celebrated being super large and long.

Yea, that diagonal jump clunkiness really proved to be annoying since it came up so often. Jumping past this from the right (on my way back) was sooooo irritating you had to be in an exact pixel spot and not that that was some true challenge, just an annoying clunkiness (it'd be one thing if it were Manic Miner-style pixel perfect jump for an exciting part, not just irritating ha) enter image description here

Still, I tried to keep pushing through because of the great jingle, true arcade adventure feel, and great Looks like this screen enter image description here

Feel: 7/10 Honestly, imo, the menu function was better-excecuted than the years-later Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest. Huge plus for the game, since that is usually my biggest beef with early RPGs and graphic adventures.

Attachment: 7/10 But, unfortunately, my other biggest pet peeve with early adventure games--an Exhaustion factor. Let me just learn the map of the game and explore! Why do we feel the need to add those things? Apparently there's a lot of factors--Food, Strength, Time... Not even sure which one got me killed from exhaustion at 20% completion, but the resource depletion factor mixed with the bad diagonal jumps means I wasn't willing to re-try this game. If you want to have an adventure that encourages exploration... let us explore! Maybe there's a simple solution to it but I found no info about restoring Strength/avoiding Exhaustion in the Instructions nor online, and tbh, I didn't want to figure it out heh. I assumed some of the food seeming items along the way would function for that, but I tried that and alas, couldn't pick them up (not the apples in the tree, nor the mushrooms, etc. etc.). A lot of potential here, and with the Look Sound and concept being solid, I thought I would push through (pretty sure a big part of the issue was that I kept getting hit by this bouncing ball thing when dealing with the bad diagonal jump, but again, didn't really want to re-try it... which says something), but... nah. Moving on. Def worth a try tho, because this has to be the best of the early action-adventures of this style so far!
