In Bomberman Max, your task is to jump through five zones with a dozen levels each. At the beginning of the round, you're given your quota to meet -- in some levels, you'll have to destroy all the enemies. In another, wipe out all the blocks in the land. In another, rescue the level's Charabomb. And in others, simply make your way to the target square in the set amount of time. In Bomberman Max, your task is to jump through five zones with a dozen levels each. At the beginning of the round, you're given your quota to meet -- in some levels, you'll have to destroy all the enemies. In another, wipe out all the blocks in the land. In another, rescue the level's Charabomb. And in others, simply make your way to the target square in the set amount of time. But it won't be easy, since many enemies just don't stay still for you to walk up and plant a bomb next to them. It's all in the strategy of bomb-placement. Plus, once a level's complete, you'll have to pick the proper exit that appears. Released in two versions, Blue and Red.

Aaand Boom Goes The Dynamite
This review is for the Game Boy Color version
Bomberman, as a series of action-puzzler games primarily found on Nintendo platforms, had a pretty good run in the late 90s. After that it's a bit unclear what happened. This came out as the series appeared to be winding down circa 2000 and it sadly hasn't really come back in any meaningful way. Anyway, it's always struck me as odd that Bomberman, as a series, isn't exactly beloved. This game, like everything else in the series (that I played) was super fun and had an adorable art style. Points deducted for the whole red/blue gotta buy both versions gimmick.
