Disappointing Addition To The Bonk Series *

This review is for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System version

Preliminary: At first I was surprised not to find an English translation/fan translation of this and tried the Japanese version. I lovvvved the first level's background. And then luckily I realized most places call it Super Genjin 2 so I found a translation. Yay! This looks neat and I liked the last SNES Bonk.

Or wait now I'm confused cuz this doesn't look like the level I saw. But the music is good and the colors are great. Not loving the controls and design so far, but I think it's something I will get used to .

Ok things are starting to flow better, I got a double bonk yay, but there's still an awkward delay when turning around and in the jump. And I don't like how the run works, tho I am glad run exists. It just doesn't mix well with the need for the other buttons. Ahhh okay you press it once and you auto run, ok interesting. Hopefully the level esign embraces that more so far it's encouraged slow, but it is the first level. (I think? The translated version isn't... very translated lol)

Annnd we already have sprite slowdown ugh. I love the colors in this tho and want to push through but we shall see. If it weren't Bonk, and the colors/sound weren't so nice, I doubt I would

Day 1

Omg now I'm sold I love the uh femme? baby? version of Bonk. Not just because of the Look but also because of teh change to the speed, jumps (double jumps!), twirl a la Crash instead of the flip bonk, and it seems I jump on the water now? enter image description here

Ugh but now the controls are slippery …

Ugh but now the controls are slippery rather than sluggish and delayed. And the enemy placement/design continues sabotage everything fun about it... Boo.

This first boss feels very Sonic-y and I dunno it's just not clicking. I will give a bit more but it's likely a 3 or 2 star and move on situation. This boss is taking way too many hits and doesn't give you the opportunity for the multi-bonks I so loved in the first Bonk.

Yep in this 2nd region, I've had enogh of the simultaneously slippery and sluggish controls.

Look: 8/10 Beautiful, but not particularly innovative or notable for late 95

Sound: 8/10

Play: 6.5/10 Probly underrating this but very disappointed. This had none of the Bonk allure, oh shoot I guess the one character was neat... but really that was more Feel than Play, since it didn't pan out with the level design allowing the use of the um femme? version.

Feel: 7/10 Disappointing, but still Bonk. And good Look/Sound and some neat ideas, just none of it executed in the level design.

Attachment: 6.5/10 Luckily there are plenty of other good Bonks for me to play.

Overall: 7.2/10 Wow how did this still get a 3 star lol this definitely should've been a 2 star. Oh the power of a decent Look and Sound... Or a broken rating system
