Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 - Quick Review
This review is for the PC (Microsoft Windows) version

Look

I was in a nostalgic mood and I figured that playing the games' versions of the story would be better than watching the show or rereading the manga because it takes less time, it's literally a cliffnotes version. Also the show gets really shit.

It's fine, the combat is flawed in structure thanks to how substitutions work but the fundamentals capture the entire Naruto idea, the aesthetics are faithful if a bit low budget a lot of the time, it gets a lot of emotional moments right on the money and also kind of oversimplifies some other moments. It also helps that Storm 2 covers the best arc from the show and has a lot of the narrative core that worked still, even if it's cut down for time.

They iron out the kinks in the later games but what's here is a decent satisfactory fanservice package. I'm part of a small audience that's going to enjoy this game and recommending it to those not in this group would be silly. (6/10)

this one just kind of blends into the third one in my mind in terms of what events happen in each game, but i still love it

LOVING this game so far! Bought all 4 Storm games on a whim, since I'd played a bit of them with friends, but haven't really been that familiar with them. Storm 2 is leagues ahead of the first one. Combat is way snappier, and while I lamented the loss of epic Ultimate Jutsus in favor of quicker cutscenes, didn't take long for me to catch on. Characters feel more different and more in line with their portrayal in the original work, with different combos that mix in a lot of their trademark attacks. Story mode has been amazing so far (currently in the middle of chapter 4). It's not only very faithful to the manga, but really tries to recreate the emotions and messages the series went for in those moments. I actually teared up a couple times, especially in Asuma's death scene (dreading a moment I know is coming..), and was left amazed at some sequences the game actually improves - Naruto and Sasuke's reunion and fight scene in Chapter 2. Having a blast so far.
