RoadTo360 5, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06: An Okay Golf Game
This review is for the Xbox 360 version

My goal is to beat 360 Xbox 360 games, but I'm choosing them randomly.

Game number 5 is Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06. This is a golfing simulator and allows the player to create their own character and compete in the PGA Tour. My criteria for beating this game was to both play all the courses and win a major championship.

This was a launch title for the 360 and there doesn't seem to be that much information online about this game. I looked for videos, a guide, or reviews and there was little to no information for the 360 version. This was released on the PS2 era of consoles as well and that is where I found most of the info for this game.

The gameplay consists of golf. You create a character and get to play 7 famous courses. I haven't really ever played a golf video game and was surprised at how much fun I had with this... now I didn't have the greatest time ever, but I thought it was going to be miserable. Golf seems to really translate to being a video game because its premise is essentially moving a ball to a goal. You …

I haven't really ever played a golf video game and was surprised at how much fun I had with this... now I didn't have the greatest time ever, but I thought it was going to be miserable. Golf seems to really translate to being a video game because its premise is essentially moving a ball to a goal. You heard it here first, golf is just a puzzle/platformer in disguise. You also level up your character and become a MUCH better golfer after leveling up a bit. I kinda liked the RPG mechanics.

One annoying thing is that the career mode does not let you play a course until you have proven yourself through tutorial challenges and by earning your Q-card. That means that you are officially a pro golfer. This process took me about 5 hours and I thought this was too much. Furthermore, the career mode seems to officially end after you win all 4 major championships in a single year. After doing that, you can play a "boss match" against Tiger Woods himself. Suffice it to say, I didn't do all that because its just too much.

The graphics in this game are horrible and the sound is completely forgettable, but the golf courses are generally nice to look at.

Overall, I spent 12 hours, 23 min, and 16 sec playing Tiger Woods 06 and actually had a decent time. There were only 7 golf courses and the graphics were horrible, but I'm going to say that this game wasn't that bad; furthermore, I'm looking forward to playing more golf games because I just think its a sport that translates well to being a video game. (2.5/5)

I have spent 79 hours and 10 min on the RoadTo360 challenge so far.

Next game: Dungeon Siege 3

go on. be a tiger.
This review is for the PlayStation Portable version

tiger woods pga tour is one of the all time great franchises. below MGS but above ridge racer. and with the psp's little analog nub thing, tiger woods is a hand in glove fit. compare this to the contemporary nintendo ds tiger woods games with stylus controls... get outta here with that junk. this is true fun.

they really put a lot of thought into this one and took what they could from the console pga tour games while making it translate to the psp. there's real love in this game. you've got good game faces. generally good challenges. good courses. great controls. they've added shot meters and little rolling beads to the greens that aren't there in say tiger woods 04 or 05 on the gamecube and ps2. but the putting challenges stink, speaking of junk to get outta here with. and the points to upgrade your dude make you so powerful that by halfway through you're just sinking shot after shot and driving the ball over 300 yards in the middle of the fairway every time.

so yeah i'm excited to move onto the next psp tiger woods game when i finish this one. many years ago as …

so yeah i'm excited to move onto the next psp tiger woods game when i finish this one. many years ago as a passerby, not a golf game player, i'd thought 'why do they make this crap every year... your just paying for a higher number on the box!!' but actually now that i'm finishing this one, its actually really fun to compare all the tiger woods games across the years and across platforms. i'm so glad that they made so many of these damn things so i can play them for ages. its clear theyre not making any more games like this ever again anyhow.

i'd say that TW06 compares favorably to the hot shots games on the psp but i can't say that it's better. the hot shots games at once have more arcade fun and more challenging realism. you see, the spin system of the hot shots games really adds so much meat to the bones. you have to really plan out the full trajectory of your shot. whereas the adding spin mid-air system in tiger woods is much more of a last-minute correction. it adds something too but in a less fun and challenging way.

however lining up a shot between club lengths is much more of a challenge in the tiger woods games, and it just feels great to hit a shot with the analog stick. check this one out if you like golf games. and if you don't like golf games, make damn well sure that you actually don't like them. they're great fun.
