I've always sorta seen Hudson's Nurikabe as the lesser cousin of their Slitherlink, the undying god-king of newspaper logic puzzles. And yeah, returning to it now it's clearly not as good, with less creativity required and solutions that feel much more on rails.
Even so, it's still a lovely game in its own right! There's some fun logical leaps to be made, it rewards foresight and whole-board awareness in a way that's pretty rare for puzzlers, and the fantastic interface moves fast as thought. Pitch perfect for playing in the background while checking out new music.
