I originally previewed this and that small build got me excited enough that I was looking forward to the full release. I didn't think it would be an outstanding game worthy of consideration for even the top ten games of 2016, but I like twin-stick shooters and shmups quite a bit. So, it's fun but there is one major issue keeping it back from being "good" or even "great."

Namely, this is the ridiculous respawn rate. Enemies just keep on coming, and maybe that's the point, but this form of chaos is not welcome. Clear out a room, go a bit forward, have to backtrack slightly, and then have a group of enemies up your arse. If it were more organic then this would give a sense of satisfaction upon completion, but it doesn't -- it just makes it annoying and didn't inspire me to overcome the problems ahead.

I actually love the grim visuals, even if the models of the characters and enemies aren't that spectacular for the most part. Travelling through these areas is pleasant because of the art …

I actually love the grim visuals, even if the models of the characters and enemies aren't that spectacular for the most part. Travelling through these areas is pleasant because of the art design in the backdrops and the environment around you. The music itself gives it an otherworldly feeling, and so it's a success in that regard.

It's just that... stop fucking spawning on me. Turn that down a little bit.
