Port of Doraemon: Meikyuu Daisakusen
3.33 average rating based on 3 ratings
Preliminary: Like brawlers, I usually don't get a "hook" with maze games, but this one seems to keep adding mechanics in each level so that keeps it a bit more interesting. Plus it has cute sound effects and whatnot. Still... we shall see. 60 stages is a lot. Tho oooo there's a way to defeat enemies, thank goodness.
The movement is so slow though, we shall see how long I push through.
Day 1
Ok so I told myself I'd stop at Round 10 but here I am on Round 13. The power-ups really add a lot, as does the nice variety of tunes. Helps that I can speed up with the upgrades or whatever happened and the different weapons I can collect and whatnot, made me feel quite powerful finally. I like that the actual levels themselves feel fast-paced, making 60 rounds seem possible, but the in-between rounds parts are so slow.
I expect more from the graphic of a PC Engine/Turbografx game, since it is next gen, but the music is great and some cute Looks nonetheless
I've made my new goal Round 30 :-p I can't believe I'm this hooked to a semi-puzzle maze game... not usually …

I've made my new goal Round 30 :-p I can't believe I'm this hooked to a semi-puzzle maze game... not usually my thing. But I just keep flying along. I'm grateful the Time limits are so forgiving (so far), they're almost excessive tho I suppose people could grind for lots of kills/points.
What I think I like about PC Engine games compared to their contemporary NES games isn't just the improved console, but also that they aren't so focused on "look how hard we are, that makes us real games." This was just plain ol fun. And addictive I must admit! I'm so surprised! I kept dismissing this at the beginning but I may have to play this to the end! (Ohhhh wait did I forget? Was there a difficulty mode selection at the beginning? Lol. That could explain why I'm finding this so forgiving and fun lol. But hey, that's how you add replayability via difficulty: let us choose the difficulty and learn the game willfully. Like the old Atari games etc that had difficulty modes.)
Got through the Round 30 boss and welp, seems I might as well push through the end.
Turns out Round 30 is a boss?! Neat. The rounds after that are starting to slow down, but I am still liking the vibe. The Latin music-esque tunes are nice.
Hmmm for some reason my game started glitching at I dunno Round 40 or so, didn't catch what Round it was and my character starting running around like crazy. At first I thought it might be intentional but doesn't seem to be. It's too bad cuz I was still pushing through, despite the level designs getting a bit repetitive at that point. Is what it is, good way to shock myself out of the fervor haha.
Look: 7.5/10 Not that it was bad at all, but just expect more from PC Engine.
Sound: 8.5/10 Some real good jams here.
Play 8.5/10 Can't deny I was fully enthralled, couldn't put it down! It was like the hook I get with action-adventure and RPG games! I don't often get that with maze or puzzle games, so that's impressive. That being said, I don't often seek out playing maze or puzzle games either.
Feel: 8/10 Cute, Look and Sound fit the vibe, gameplay was addictive. Good stuff. Impressive for its genre.
Attachment: 8/10 If there's a puzzle maze game I would return to, this would be it. I just don't often return to that genre is all.
Overall: 8.1/10
Completion: Not sure the exact Round, somewhere around 40. I usually fast forwarded through the between-round parts unless a special screen or boss was coming up etc.
Playtime: 1 hr
