Having a good time with this (emulated) on the PC. I'm stoked to finally be awakening to my love of arcade racers, so I'm making an effort to play the greats I've missed out on!

Racing is hard to do on this console setup. I rubbed my thumb pretty raw on the PSP analog nub after just a few races. But even if you get around the limitations of the console controls (through emulation, for example) the racing game is still relatively bland. It does have good visuals, especially for the console, and the music fits the game aesthetic well. But the tracks just don't have much variety, the weapons don't feel diverse enough, and this game just generally lacks "soul." It is not objectively bad, just not very memorable or engaging.

Better to spend your time with something a little more interesting. And if you are going to emulate anyway then you might as well play something a little more robust like Jak X: Combat Racing or some Mario Kart entry, or even Extreme G.

Three stars for graphics and decent game-play. There are just dozens of better titles out there for more modern gamers for around the same price point.
