Based on the arcade game, in Escape from the Planet of the Robot Monsters you are sent in on a rescue mission to Planet X. This planet has been taken over by robots and you must find and evacuate the remaining humans. It's a shooter similar to Gauntlet, only with an isometric viewpoint. You run around the levels shooting robots, rescuing humans and picking up items.

Neat Quirky Arcade Game

I played this at a local arcade. Such an odd gem of a game. IT plays a bit like Gauntlet in that you are rushing through dungeons trying to rescue captured humans. You have a radial stick with 360 degrees of aiming, and you push the stick in the direction you wish to move. It works well and the game almost looks and sounds a bit like Smash TV.. its featuring garish colrful and brite stuff everywhere thats inspired be 1950's sci fi retrocfuturis/ golden age science fiction pulp. I stuck with this and decided to complete it but could not because the boss must be defeated in a single credit or you must replay the whole room... Would probably have given it five stars had they not done that crap. Oh well.

plasmasnake's review of Escape from the Planet of the Robot Monsters

There was something really satisfying about the sound and animation of robots and level objects getting destroyed. Maybe this is sort of gauntlet like but with an isometric perspective? I could get pretty far but never beat this, should try again with an emulator.
