First Game To Use Sound To Successfully Add A Scare Element! Plus, Quite Fun (Tho Hard)

Look: 8/10 Because of the lengthy process to start up Dragon games, I didn't take any screenshots, but a video does a good job showing how well they achieved the first-person 3d feel (definitely better than most its contemporary attempts) and the terrifying elements ha

Sound: 8/10 Somewhat annoying, but I can't deny how critical sound is for this game (perhaps the first game where sound was not just annoying beeps and boops, but critical to gameplay). You can hear the Phantoms approaching, like footsteps, and your heart starts racing and you try to get a good vantage point, and I suck at gaming so I'm going back and forth and bam! They appears! Great jump scares from that ha. But otherwise, quite functional: the shoot sound was pretty good and the teleport sound too. Definitely better than most microcomputer games' sounds.

Play: 7/10 Surprisingly fast loading and fast gameplay for a Dragon/microcomputer game. Very impressive for its time, and its achievement of a difficult concept. I can't claim to have had a blast with the actual gameplay itself, but I enjoyed wandering around; I enjoyed fleeing like a maniac once I realized I suck and found it fun just …

Play: 7/10 Surprisingly fast loading and fast gameplay for a Dragon/microcomputer game. Very impressive for its time, and its achievement of a difficult concept. I can't claim to have had a blast with the actual gameplay itself, but I enjoyed wandering around; I enjoyed fleeing like a maniac once I realized I suck and found it fun just to run away from Phantoms (tho they always still got me lol); and I lovvvved that feeling of finally successfully slaying a Phantom. Oh, and the controls were amazingly tight and responsive for a microcomputer game (one of my biggest issues with microcomputer games of this era are the controls compared to arcade, so it was nice to see fast processing and effective controls--even if I myself was ineffective lol). Oh, almost forgot. The manual is somewhat helpful, tho the controls are quite intuitive (move with d-pad, Space Bar to shoot)--it helps with just getting the game started ha smh.

Feel: 8/10 The scare factor is real in this game! So impressive they were able to pull that off. I can't claim I had a blast playing it, because I sucked at it, but the game does an amazing job of an early first-person maze shooter with horror elements! Definitely a distinct "feel" to it that deserves a playthrough for any first-person shooter fans or horror game fans or even just early 3d maze game fans! (Because there is still that maze chase element, not just shooting.)

Attachment: 8/10 I definitely will have my brothers playtest this next time they are over: they love horror and pop-out scares ha. I can't claim I will regularly be returning to this, but I certainly wont be forgetting it and it's a very well-done game and super fun to playtest for a while. This probly deserves an 8, but because this game is so unique and I want to watch better gamers play it (but actually in-person with me--a video doesn't do a good job of having that fear factor that would happen if I watched my brothers play it) I'm boosting this enough so that it can earn a 4 star and not just fall into the sea of 3 star games that will likely be forgotten heh. It may not be the game for me, but it's a great game. And plus, the fact I wont forget it--and I want to be better at it and see it played again--definitely validates this 9. Edit: Well, I came to my senses--and no matter what, unless I wind up replaying this myself or really going deep with my brothers, this will have to sadly stay an 8 for now.

Completion: Not even one maze of Phantoms :( But I got my one kill I was shooting for! Playtime: 20 minutes
