Stacks On Stacks (On Stacks) is a zany 3D tower builder. Play as the Master Stacker, Rockit, who must use her psychic helmet to clean up the colorful bricks falling all over her madcap world. BUILD stable towers by executing architectural feats of balancing. INCORPORATE mixed-up materials into your towers: works of art, aquariums, magnets, and more. DEFEND your towers against invading ghosts, a fireball-breathing dragon, and other outlandish hazards. KNOCK your finished towers back down with a wrecking ball.

Stacks and stacks of fun

3.5* Actual rating

I started this game on a whim as I was super confused what to play after finishing The Last of Us Part II. Nothing felt quite right so I started a game I thought I wouldn't enjoy because it would be easy to pick up and put down.

Turns out this game is pretty fun! There are some cutscenes that aren't very long but it adds some semblance of a story to the wacky block dropper and for me, that's much appreciated. And I really loved the art in the cutscenes. A sort of dark cartoon-y look to them.

The game doesn't skimp of difficulty either. I went from easily completing all the levels to struggling, to a final boss I wasn't sure I was going to beat at first. And the way the levels made it interesting by adding cool things like stacking in top of quicksand or having to keep a stack under a certain amount of feet made it pretty fresh feeling the whole way through.

It's hard not to compare this to Tetris. Which I think is reasonable but also not accurate. Sure you stack blocks but thats about where the comparison ends. …

It's hard not to compare this to Tetris. Which I think is reasonable but also not accurate. Sure you stack blocks but thats about where the comparison ends. There's a game show in the middle of the game and a platforming frog. It's cool and I came away pretty impressed. Especially for a game I initially had no intention of playing at all.

While this game isn't going to win any game of the year awards it's definitely something that's going to go under a lot of people's radar and that's to bad because there is something special here. Give it a go, you may find yourself pleasantly surprised like I was.
