Solitaire is not supposed to be a fun game. Solitaire is the game of the condemned man, a ritualistic way to kill unwanted time and silence cold black thoughts that refuse to leave you in peace. You click, and progress happens. You drag, and you realize you made a mistake, but you can accept it; there was no earthly way to know what lay beneath. Black 5 to Red 6, Black King to Empty Column, and then... ? You have agency of a sort in this microcosm, but it is imperfect, at least as imperfect as it is in the waking world; Solitaire will teach you to add "God willing" to the end of each intention; it will make you docile. And when all is sorted and organized in four neat stacks and the cards begin to dance around, you realize you aren't done idling yet and start the ritual anew. This is less a game than it is an old, worn cultural tool that serves a perfectly self-destructive purpose, and I can respect that.
Classic single-player card game bundled with all Microsoft Windows OSs.
