Wow, So Many Amazing, Crucial Games Coming Out of the Woodwork!
This review is for the Atari 8-bit version

Look: 10/10 Great, Atari-style UI and Atari colors. Really like the "open-world" well open-city concept; it felt like open-world Pac-Man heh. I love love love the dusk-esque colors for the tall city buildings. enter image description here

I also love the river and lake. enter image description here

I had no idea what I was doing when first started playing the game, just knew it's gameover if run out of Gas and wanted to collect as many items as possible; I thought I had to avoid the other cards but apparently not even that. That being said, it was nice to finally just wander: the main thing I used to do on GTA was just wander the city, not necessarily kill people just take in the sights. It was nice to finally feel that in the game, plus the graphics were solid enough to warrant it. I suppose I can finally declare I "got lost" in some graphics, like I used to do with PS2 dusk backgrounds! Maybe I'm overrating this a bit, but the colors the setting and the open-worldness.

Play: 8/10 I always appreciate simple, functional controls, especially as games are getting into the mid-80s and more and more complex. Oh, ok so it's the …

Play: 8/10 I always appreciate simple, functional controls, especially as games are getting into the mid-80s and more and more complex. Oh, ok so it's the flashing vehicles I need to avoid which of course would signify emergency vehicles or something heh. I can't deny I had fun just wandering around the map lol, but still not entirely sure what I was doing lol! Otherwise, it's incredibly easy. I like that you fill up on gas lol. The manual made it much clearer when you advanced a level and what your goal is (didn't realize you wanted to hit the white van lol). Considering its limitations, this game really does excel at realizing as much as it could of a crime game. Is this the first true crime game? I know that Manbiki Shounen game or whatever is considered the first stealth game as you shoplift, but this feels truly like a crime game. The map is almost too big for just the 3 Diamonds to collect from Level 1.

Feel: 9/10 Cute, fun, interesting--still no clue what I am doing but a good "feel" to it for sure. Plus, those graphics... Welp, I had a chance to read the manual, and it's a good sign that I chose to return to it. I actually wish I hadn't learned that you're supposed to just stash your Cash and that's basically the point. The Cash spawns just too infrequently and it turns out to be quite slow. I prefer just wandering in the game than actually playing it heh. Sounds familiar--exactly my opinion on GTA 3 and Vice City as a kid :-p This honestly felt like GTA in so many ways

Attachment: 9/10 I wanna replay this to figure out what's really going on (I'm at work right now lol), but the fact it was impressive enough to have me just wander around for fun says a lot. Definitely watch a video of this or play it if you like GTA and Driver, because I could see this being the first game similar to those genres. The fact I returned to this the same day boosted it to a 9 for sure! Fascinating precedent to GTA, even if I wish it were a bit more fast-paced.
