I was wrong. This is not Catholicshock, is Resident Evil: Semana Santa.
I really liked this game. You know me, I always get madly in love with any game with some mysterious lore to analyze and I really like survival horror games, so this was perfect for me. It's not really scary and the "blood as ammunition" mechanic didn't made this as tense as I was expecting, But I have a lot of fun exploring the maps, solving puzles and delighting myself in the aesthetics.
Here's my full review in spanish

It's a real shame it has a lot of bugs, but I hope they get eventually solved in patches.
Crisol definitely exceeded my expectations. I thought it was going to be a standard FPS with some light horror themes, but it drew a ton of inspiration from Resident Evil and, while not exactly a survival horror, it still scratched a similar itch.
You play as Gabriel, a servant of the Sun god, sent to collect souls in service of your master. The gameplay is basically a modern survival horror - kill enemies, solve puzzles, and slowly unlock a somewhat interconnected map. The level design isn't totally nonlinear, there are branching paths and collectibles and often you can backtrack to wherever you want. But just as often you are locked in to linear sections - it's truly about 50/50.
The puzzles are very Resident Evil inspired, and I thought they were great. The combat is most similar to Dead Space, as dismemberment is key to survival. The overall art style is pretty fantastic - the architecture, items, and enemy designs are very eye candy. And the map is also great, showing completion for each room.

I found a few bugs with the map, and even on hard mode the game is way too easy. I never ran out of resources, and the game really doesn't challenge you with combat. But overall I really enjoyed my time with it, and it was definitely much more survival horror inspired than I imagined. Definitely check it out if you enjoy BioShock, Resident Evil (the modern ones), or possibly games like Lies of P.
7.0/10!
But doesn't deliver much.
It's an okay game. Everything about it is "good."
Yet it failed to shine and missed an opportunity if you ask me.
Still promising tho. I would like to play another game from this studio.
I wrote an an analysis of the influences of reiligious conflict, catholic imaginery, lovecraftian horror, spanish theater and classic mythologies on the indie horror game Crisol: Theater of Idols.
It's in spanish and you can find it here.

Its full of spoilers, obviously. Only recomended if you finished the game already.
