Echoes of Dread is kinda just a filler game in my backlog, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. It’s basically an escape room horror game, like a first person resident evil but just puzzles. It has elements of walking sim horror too - scripted scares, some stealth elements, an interesting story…
My only real complaint is the art assets. Its immediately obvious how lackluster they are - one painting still has a watermark on it, many art images are reused in rooms side by side, and the main “villain” gives the stupidest face when it actually catches you- taking the tension out of the game entirely.
It was a pretty fun little 2-3 hour game, but nothing special. I could play these types of games all day, but it just feels like an appetizer in comparison to the greats of the genre. Still, there’s a time and place for games like this so I would actually recommend it. I’m only giving it 2 stars so I don’t fool myself into replaying it some day.
