Elemental Gearbolt is your typical "save the world from the evil lunatic who wishes to destroy all of mankind for his own tyrannical reasons" story. In this case, a power hungry prince is plotting this scenario by using the Neural Network Computer, which happens to keep the world in balance. He wishes to destroy this machine, which feeds on volunteers, or Elementals. Once you die, your soul is fed to this machine which makes you an Elemental. Such is the case with the two sisters' Nell and Seana. But what the prince did not know is that he caused their … More

A home console light gun game with anime: for all your niche needs
This review is for the PlayStation version

I’m a sucker for light gun games, so that’s an important bit of context. I used to live in the middle of nowhere and all I had were my games at home and the one arcade cab of Area 51 at the only pizza place within 50 miles. My little idiot self always wished for the opportunity to play light gun games any time I wished. Fast forward 15 years and my little goblin brain finally gets the serotonin hit that it desperately needed (college is wild). This game combines my classic love of light gun games with the ever so elegant addition of 90’s anime. What does that amount to? A solid light gun romp with really good music and visuals with anime cutscenes in the middle. Do I care for the “story” in this game? Nah, but the aesthetic is an interesting pair. The folks who made this game also made Project Horned Owl, which is the same concept but more mech anime based as opposed to fantasy. One fun note is that this game has no ammo counter or reloads, just three different weapons with different firing rates (these can be switched at any time). Fun little …

hard, fun, weird.

really fun shooting game with a great and unorthodox atmosphere and soundtrack. very playable with a dual shock (preferred this to the guncon).

the game whooped my ass until I got good enough to get to the final boss, and then I practiced get the secret chalices (look on gamefaqs) to boost my level high enough to beat the final boss.

No way I'm trying it on hard.

finally fucking beat this game lol.

I wasn't even trying to beat it, just trying to find the secret chalices to get a good score so I could get enough health to beat the boss.

This game is really hard with a controller, but I think more fun. It feels a bit like a shmup.

really great music and atmosphere. More people should try this game out.
