The Roots of Action-Adventure Games Are As Strong As I'd Hoped!
This review is for the Atari 8-bit version

Look: 8/10 Omg omg the character is so cute, like a little dancing ghost. Plus, the UI is nice. enter image description here

Sound: 6/10 Just functional enough. I always find funerary music for deaths a little goofy. And otherwise it's just functional Atari sounds. I miss the 2600 noise-i-ness a la Superman.

Play: 8/10 Omg I love how you aim the weapon, I prefer this over the dual joystick solution to aiming/walking for shooting games. I'm loving all these action adventure hybrids; this is more focused on puzzle solving (which is a classic adventure trait, though) with action elements. But the treasure collecting reminded me of other early action-adventures like Venture. I'm loving this formula expanding and expanding as we approach the console era; I may have to replay the Zeldas when I get to them now that I have the true context of the genre. Like Minotaur, this feels like the first truly successful blending of action and adventure genres, where you feel like you're on an adventure but instead of text parser commands you are using action controls. Like Minotaur, this feels like the first truly successful blending of action and adventure genres, where you feel like you're on an adventure but instead of text parser commands you are using action controls. These games keep getting me excited for my upcoming backlog games! I do wish there were a way to shoot without releasing the key, but I can't deny the controls are smooth and fun especially if you give yourself time to get used to them. The game was really fast-paced while I was trying to get used to the controls, which kinda stunk. Even once I got used to the controls, their responsiveness was not perfect, especially with the shooting timing. Not a fan of the Looks Too Easy room lol, just relies too much on the clunky controls.

Feel: 9/10 I felt proud of myself for solving some of the puzzles, even as easy as they generally were (like shooting the wall in the Boxed In level). And I solved the Magic Touch room yay! (I'm so juvenile lol, celebrating solving incredibly simple puzzles). Excellent concept, great execution, really only complaint is meh controls.

Attachment: 8/10 If I ever wanna show somebody the roots of action-adventure games, this will definitely be on the list! enter image description here
