Warsow is set in a futuristic cartoonish world where rocketlauncher-wielding pigs and lasergun-carrying cyberpunks roam the streets. It is a completely free, fast-paced first-person shooter without hard graphical violence. Red stars instead of blood indicate hits and colored cubes replace guts as gib effects.

Good old multiplayer FPS action, but no one to play with

Artistic Value: The graphics are OK, they get the job done, a little bit outdated for 2012 (the game had a long development since it's open-source). The game is 4 year old and the focus is multiplayer, so the whole setting is just there as a medium in which the players kill each other endlessly, not much else should be said. The sound effects in the weapons don't feel that powerful though. Rating = 5/10 for average.

Gameplay: All the good ole' mechanics are there for the veterans to feel at home. The controls are just as responsive as ever, the interface is just as unobtrusive as ever. The long development has made it practically bug-free (I think the latest version was release a couple months ago). It feels like Quake, it is practically Quake, but it adds some special movements like dash and wall-jump. Quake 3 Arena came out in 1999 and this game doesn't bring much new to the table, and if it does something radically new, then it has failed in its purpose to provide the old gameplay that a few people still like to play. I personally still like this gameplay, but one …

I personally still like this gameplay, but one just need to play a few minutes of something modern to see where things moved a while ago: something diverse but simple (and probably unbalanced) that anyone can pickup and do good. Rating = 8/10 for superb.

Fun Factor: Lacks in originality which can get boring after a while. Most importantly: there are no people to play with, the servers are completely deserted. It's no fun to play on your own, although I suppose you could play against bots (very boring). You have the option to get into competitive play and/or private servers, in which people have a very high skill level. Rating = 2/10 for terrible.

Final Verdict: Good old multiplayer FPS action, but no one to play with. Rating = 5/10 for Average.

SuperFieroStatus's review of Warsow

I wish more people played this game. It's good old fashioned arena shooting.
