Nonlinear retro platformer (not a metroidvania) that's pretty good
This game is close to being a metroidvania, but it doesn't have ability upgrades. It is a simulated retro game with a fake history, where you explore 3 different dungeons on fake retro consoles. It is a humorous context for a pretty well designed dungeon platformer.

This game is close to being a metroidvania, but it doesn't have ability upgrades. It is a simulated retro game with a fake history, where you explore 3 different dungeons on fake retro consoles. It is a humorous context for a pretty well designed dungeon platformer.
The main gameplay is a collect-a-thon platformer, where you go seeking coins in an interconnected temple. It is maze-like and has plenty of secrets, environmental puzzles, and some light combat.
It is enjoyable, but I can't help but feel it would've been better as a metroidvania. Finding coins just isn't as exciting as finding abilities or character upgrades. Still, I enjoyed the tight level design and retro art style.
