resorted to gamefaq halfway through
Saw it and figured it could be good for halloween mood. Last Half of Darkness is a cool looking point and click game stylized very much like the ICOM simulations titles Shadowgate and Uninvited. This game takes heavy inspiration from Uninvited, as it has a haunted house theme and feel.
This game plays similiar. The interface is more or less a clone. The puzzles are a bit better I found. (some logic) Though "stuck" is still a problem. (single objects can be missed.) The game is shorter. There is less interactive 'details' It's a bit spooky and creepy.
In the end its okay. I saw it and had to play it as it indeed looked authentic to the games that inspired it. In this regard it's a decent enough game, has some shortcomings of its own though. I liked most of the puzzles though and am slightly a bit curious what the rest of this series turned out like. (No real 'use bubblegum on light socket to do totally unexpecteds' here.) Could be good adventure game hidden gem here.

Graphics 4. Nice for EGA. consistency. pays homage to inspired material. a few animations. At times this looks even PC-88-ish, though It's missing truly gruesome horror scenes.
Audio 2. No music really. Sounds can trigger clues/events. (However, I didnt set this up right in my emulator to trigger)
Gameplay 3. Decent for what it is. Has same pitfalls the come with genre. Friendly minimal UI with no pixel hunting.
Story 2. It's really not that good or engaging and more or less streams together the jist of it. Clues however, are well done and guide well.
Overall Design 4. Its nicely inspired from better-known games, yet doesnt rip them off. Feels inspired. Feels spooky.
Final Score: 3
Might be worth looking into this or the remake if you get hungry for shadowgate. Was not a bad way to spend an hour or two.
