Troll’s Tale is the second graphic adventure for kids programmed by Al Lowe for Sierra and it’s fascinating to see how it tries to “grow up” with its players. Compared to Dragon’s Keep, it’s a bit more complex, with a (comparatively) sprawling map and some simple puzzles. Also, the map included in the box is largely incomplete: you have to fill it with locations and the connections between them, plus the stickers to signal the treasures you found. Of course it still is a simple treasure hunt game, but we had fun in exploring it, once again printing the map and the stickers (thanks, internet!) and then filling it all.
I wasn't gonna finish this after a playtest last night, but decided I should give it a more earnest try rather than right before bed try heh. Good adventure, enjoyable puzzles, and some nice settings for an intro to early adventure games. But if only the graphics were a bit more striking and/or there was something to pull you back to it. Probly the best screen was this, as tacky as it was. Just nice to see the dwarf guard in such a nice, MS Paint green sunny day background rather than where he was before (the dark cave) ha
Lol disappointing end but nice to see it nonetheless. Oh wow
Well, I guess actually the Sierra/true ending is a bit more satisfying to see.
