Two guys, one ring, one prize
This review is for the Atari 2600 version

Boxing for the Atari 2600 captures the thrill and stress of the ring in surprisingly simple yet effective fashion. You play as either a white stickman or a black stickman, and you have three difficulty modes, practice, easy and hard.

The knock outs

  • The game really makes you feel stressed and on edge, one bad move and you can go from dominating the match to losing quite badly.
  • The game has a simple combo system of timed hits, if you time your hits perfectly you can make your opponent bounce between your fists, allowing you to hit them several times.
  • The game allows you to win or lose by knockout (Someone scores 100 points) or by decision (If time runs out, whoever has the most points win).
  • The graphics are simple but memorable, they are just shapes but the animation of the punches are very well made and fluid despite being only 4 kilobytes.

The countdown

  • The game can get brutal in no time. One missed punch and there is no way to recover if you are already losing.
  • It has no content other than fightning against the AI, another player or practice mode.

Overall.
