Signing a contract with the devil to smash up Hotels and play odd minigames wasn't on my list of must-plays, but somehow I've already smashed my way through 5 hours of Hotel R'N'R. For a four year old VR title it's pretty impressive how well it's held up considering the rapid pase at which VR is moving. The concept is simple, smash up the hotel room you're in as fast as possible and turn the locks as the cleaner, manager, and security try to open your door... or just punch them in the face and run off.

I'm no fan of time restrictions and stressful encounters, but I didn't mind these mechanics at all. For those who want the therapy of destruction uninterrupted you can choose a safe mode where you won't be disturbed. The "story" is short at 5 hours-ish, but really the game just gets going at that point.
There's a whole host of chaos to get stuck into as you're left to continue smashing up a variety of hotels, buy and collect more weapons and costumes, complete challenges and evolve your weapons with their own individual challenges, as well as take part in an array of weird but clever mini-games.

The physics and playground feel is what I love most about this game. It reminded me a lot of the destruction based games from previous generations like State of Emergency You still have an objective to aim for, which is destroy as many things as possible, but you're allowed to do it in whichever way suits you. I love games that give you this freedom, and I also appreciate how interactive things are, which is what VR should be all about in my opinion. Most experiments you can think of work, doors and cupboards open, turn the oven on and place a gas cannister over it and you'll get a big explosion, shove some items down a cannon and light the fuse and they'll come flying out, attach glue to a plate and you can stick it to a wall etc.

Hopefully they'll add some kind of mod or steam workshop support now that it's launched on the Quest 3 and has been updated on Steam. The six or so included hotels are fun, but it definitely leaves you wanting more. Anyway, I've got some gas cannisters to blow up and some hands to lose!
