Project Root reminds me a lot of the old Zone 66 game. A top down twin stick shooter where you fly around in an open environment blasting both ground and aerial targets. I really enjoyed Zone 66 and am sure I'd like a modern version of it. Project Root had potential for that, but ultimately doesn't come through. Controls and shooting are very smooth and precise, although the number of weapons are very limited. It doesn't have many enemies either, but that and the graphics audio are all serviceable. The biggest sin Project Root makes is long levels (around 30 minutes) and if you die you have to start back at the very beginning. I can usually make it through to the boss without problems only to be killed and have to do the entire long level over again. Playstation trophies show about 30% make it through the first level and that drops to less then 5% of players finishing the second level. I don't blame them.
