The final boss seems really cheap. Way to ramp up the difficulty right at the end. Lovely little game otherwise!
Probably a game most people haven't noticed, but it's coming out pretty soon: Trip World DX. This was a platformer for the Game Boy, released only in Japan and Europe regions (and apparently in limited quantities at that). You play as a bunny with a few transformation abilities (to fly, swim, etc).
The game stands out in a couple ways: 1) the level of detail and number of unique animations is extremely impressive for the hardware, and 2) it's a game where most enemies don't fight you (the main exception being boss battles). You can make your way through levels a pacifist (if enemies bump into you, you don't take damage), or you can choose to attack (at which point enemies will fight back and deal damage).
At any rate, it's not a top-tier platformer (even if only talking about the Game Boy), but it is an interesting curiosity in gaming history. This re-release will include a brand-new color version, plus some behind-the-scenes content. It sounds like Limited Run Gaming plans to give this special treatment to other old-school titles, which I'm all for (love it when we get a port with all the bells and whistles).
This is a really simple but fun Kirby-like before Kirby was even a thing. Everything is really damn cute and I love the designs. The gameplay has a curve and attacking is just one button (and the game doesn't teach you how to change base form), but it's still neat and actually quite frustrating in some sections. But the game is REALLY short, I went through the whole game in 50 minutes.
Ultimate Form is a monstrosity though... and super busted.
Fun and charming little game, that gets surprisingly difficult towards the end.
Good music, (very) cute graphics, cool powers. Hitboxes are a bit annoying but you'll eventually get used to it.
Definitely recommended.
