We're back. Battefield 3 was a very important game for me and this harkens back to that era. Great gun mechanics, fun online, beautiful graphics and runs like a dream. The maps could do with some work and some huge ones would be fun to play on. Redsec is not really my thing unfortunately. Hope they continue with some great DLC for this one.
Battlefield 6 dazzles you with the image of having all of these traits that a great game has. It has multiple maps, pretty graphics, a good variety of match types, tons of guns and attachments to unlock, yada yada you know the drill.
Where I struggle to recommend Battlefield is a ton of little issues that add up to a substantial amount of flaws. Guns and attachments take a comically absurd number of hours of gameplay to unlock. Even months after release, many maps still have exploits that allow players to get onto rooftops where they're not supposed to have access. The assault class's Stim ability is so useless that it's actually bad to use it most of the time. In most matches, you'll die within 2 seconds of having spawned at least once. Shortly after release, EA shoved a Battle Pass into the game, and they constantly harass you to buy the paid tier. Also, it's minor, but the campaign is just dogshit.
The thing that really puts it over the line for me is that the game is still crashing for me. This is the only triple-AAA game that regularly crashes on my PC - I'd estimate one …

The thing that really puts it over the line for me is that the game is still crashing for me. This is the only triple-AAA game that regularly crashes on my PC - I'd estimate one every 1-3 hours of gameplay. It's extremely frustrating to be booted to desktop over and over, especially when the match lengths are often 30-40 minutes.
There's really a lot of great things about Battlefield 6 that I do want to praise. The gunplay feels great. The classes feel like they have unique purposes and niches. The match sizes aren't as massive as prior Battlefield games, but I actually really enjoy the current map and player count sizes. When you're able to enjoy the game for what it is, it feels like a 8 or 9 out of 10 game. Unfortunately, you'll feel yourself get pulled out of that high over and over.
I give Battlefield 6 an "Eh, I guess".
But they didn't put too much effort to it.
Enjoyable tho.

Although I'm currently marking it at a 4/5 stars, it really could be a 3 and it certainly sits somewhere in between. I don't know if I'll ever fully review it, but after about 60 hours I do want to note a couple of things.

I've spent too much time ranting about a game that's probably going to become more call of duty like rather than less. Yes, I'd love to see us get back to the day of a battlefield that was less flexible in class and vehicles because there were less of them and being exception required not only being good, but having good support (such as team restriction on class numbers).
These types of limits may not solve battlefields declining player base though, and unfortunately the more accessible approach is probably more appealing to a wider audience, which is more important than a well-balanced game that focuses on the teams strength rather than the individuals.
Remember, games like MAG (back when it was there) had a better focus on the grand team with higher numbers of players and a structured chain of command approach, opening up more options the further along the game ran. It was more limited in its development and was locked to the PS3 ultimately leading to its demise. I'd love to see Battlefield inspire to be a better MAG than a better Call of Duty. but I don't think that is its future.
At the end of the day, I can't think of another FPS multiplayer game on the market right now, with a decent player base, that would be better to play. So if you like FPS gaming, and you like the large battles focused on taking objectives, I think this is where you should spend your time and money (I'm not a battle royale player so I'm not going to touch that mode). I will continue to play this game, and I'm cautiously excited for season 2.
So far season 2 feels like a 3/5 for me. I've played a bunch, but only had the new map pop in rotation 1. It seems fun, but will need more play to experience it more. The issues players had with the game all firmly remain and after nearly 150 hours, I can confidently say they probably won't fix them. Some of the highlights of shit that needs fixed are:

Anyways, probably the last time I'll gripe on battlefield vi. I really need to go play something else. I still have fun, but it's definitely starting to wear on me.
I'm reasonably assured EA has secretly screwed with the back end of Battlefield VI to try and force matches to be closer. I would hazard there is a weighted calculation of ticket reduction in the late game that doesn't match the rest of the curve. Blow outs are no fun, but they're honest. We're still seeing the occasional blow out, but I'm now seeing a lot of matches where a 200 - 400 ticket lead is just evaporating, and the matches are ending within tens of tickets. It's happening so often now, there's no way its a coincidence. If they announced such a system, I apologize for missing it, but it feels like a shady mechanic hidden in the back end to make games feel close.
I did what I just said I wouldn't do, and I bought Battlefield VI. I know. Shame on me. I got it on sale. Unfortunately, there's just nothing else that currently lives up to Battlefield. Although, in my opinion, the jury on multiplayer is still out, I had a much better second night on multiplayer. I will probably eventually give full thoughts on that when I've had more time with it, for now let me just comment on the campaign.
I overall found it to be a decent training wheels, extended, hand-holding, learning experience when it comes to controls (although they had no vehicles of flight) and it does help one get a feel for the game. It let's you experiment with several weapons and gadgets and fine tune your graphics settings on the fly, which I really needed to do thanks to my aging 3080 being paired with a 4k tv and a (albeit well optimized) heavy modern game.
The story, however, is your typical glorification of the military with less "Tom Clancy" and more "Chief Wiggum Clancy". An insufferable plot, full of holes, flat characters, and unenthusiastic dialogue. I'm not going to overly ding battlefield 6 for this, …

I'm not going to overly ding battlefield 6 for this, because no one is here for the story, but a little effort would have gone a long way. I think about things like Call of Duty, a curse in the Battlefield world, and how I hate their multiplayer, but typically enjoy their story and will occasionally binge on a sale just to play through it, where here, I can fully recommend never doing that. If you're not here for multiplayer, stay far, far away.
My favorite part was the graphical glitch (or feature) I got early on where the cinema was showing me flying away in a helicopter, while a blackhawk (parked on the ground) playfully engaged two enemy tanks, while they just shot at each other during my flyover.
I'm left with the thought that the DEVs are so close to producing a truly wonderful single player experience, but they just don't commit to it. The squad based special forces military p*rn could be a niche that hasn't been properly filled since SOCOM Navy SEALs. Instead we get a half-arsed plot accompied by a 5 hour tutorial with glitches, bugs, and an overly aggressive "out-of-bounds" clock.
I bought this game because my brothers in law wanted to play. This is my first competitive shooter since Halo Reach. I am getting smoked. Any tips on how to get good? It doesn't feel like playing a lot is actually that helpful.
I played the Battlefield 6 demo for one night, and I'm reasonably convinced EA has fudged it up.... AGAIN. I see a lot of good and potentially fun in battlefield 6, but I also don't feel like I'm playing a true BATTLEFIELD game. The level design, the map size seems to be designed to enhance chaos and dilute tactics in favor of quick run and gun gameplay.

It felt more like a call of duty title on a slightly larger map than a battlefield title where squads could take advantage of coordination and cooperation. Coordinating with a squad to take an objective or working with a buddy to hold an objective felt impossible. The maps do not support squad-based team play in my opinion. They are designed for the mass of people to move point to point. The capture points were so close on the map that we were constantly trying to defend against a team that felt like they could basically spawn directly on the next objective. They've basically traded classes for loadouts, which actually seems to work.

It's not the gameplay that's the problem; it's the fact that the available maps don't let the game feel like battlefield. The game seems to favor the whole team approach over the squad in a bigger battle approach. It just didn't feel like Battlefield. Unfortunately, I don't think the game is worth the price of admission at this time, so I won't be experiencing the full game.
I've never been a Battlefield person at all, but I'd say Call of Duty (my usual preference) and shooters as a whole are in a place where a little something different for me is welcome, and this game was well-timed as it received a lot of praise from its fanbase and feels like a nice polished and customer-friendly package to jump into. I don't think this will replace my interest in CoD, but I have been generally enjoying it. Feels nice moment-to-moment, and there's something to its implementation of a large-team format broken into smaller squads that can more directly support one another which does work well. I definitely have a feeling of being somewhat lost and useless to my team sometimes as I slowly get used to how you're supposed to play this on top of "learning" maps (I haven't actually learned much yet). I find it pretty fun shooting from a tank and would like to try out flying a plane since I am a fan of some flight games. I got ill on the day of the launch so I've sort of been playing this in a daze-like state but t's been fun so far... I think?
I'm not usually one for day 1 purchases when it comes to FPS games, if anything I've grown out of them the older I get, but since the Bad Company 2 days in 2009 I've really enjoyed the sandbox features and all the toys and gadgets at your disposal in the battlefield titles.
There's lots of explosions, lots of screen shaking, and at times I probably look like I'm spinning around looking for my mum in the middle of a warzone. Loving the vehicles and the drag revive feature! Just wish there were bigger maps which is what the franchise is typically known for.

Had some good games this weekend including the closest possible Conquest game you can have (each team starts with 999 tickets):

BF6 is fun overall with a few flaws. Some maps encourage toxic camping, the shotgun is a one-shot kill and giving C4 to the Recon class can make urban maps awful, especially for vehicles.
While i did get pretty bad at BF due to not playing it since BF4 8 years ago, i did get a couple of good finishes with #2 being my highest rank:

NB: There is a free beta this weekend and next weekend. It's only 39GB too. However, you do need to log in to an EA account even when installing through Steam. You also have to go to your BIOS and enable Secure Boot. I had to wait about 10 minutes in queue too (160K+ waiting, but it went fast).
Just played the beta for 2,5 hours. I have only played BF 3&4 previously. This feels like basically the same game but with more destructible environments. Also any class can use any weapon and they've shuffled things around a bit. E.g. the support is now the medic. Overall, pretty good. Got a couple of sweet kills with the default rocket launcer, which was my favourite weapon in BF4, lol.
I haven't played many of the beta testing for many of the battlefield games. Just 3, 2042, and now 6. So far it’s shaping up to be a good game. It looks good and feels good. The only thing I’ve noticed in my 5 or so matches is first person view when flying helicopters is absolutely horrendous. Just hoping on full release it lives up to what they’ve shown so far.
