When a vicious crew of aliens decides to hone in on Earth and do some damage, you're the planet's only hope for salvation. You'd better be in top form as you command a killer spacecraft out into orbit in hopes of rescuing humanity from unthinkable misery. Each of the eight stages in PROJECT S-11 poses unique challenges, and each setting is more harrowing than the last. Although you're going it alone in this one, there are four different types of power-ups hidden throughout the game to give the boost you'll need to survive and wipe out the terrifying extra-terrestrials. You'll benefit from a complete statistical readout that adorns the right side of your screen, keeping you abreast of all necessary information: your score, your ship's armor level, and the number of bombs you have stored up for combat. The game's fast-paced action looks excellent in full color, and the intensity of it will have you breaking a sweat before you're through the first level. Those aliens had better look out with you at the controls, Earth stands a fighting chance. Less

Platform:

Gameboy Color version.

Graphics/Sound:

This game looks awesome, for the capabilities of the GBC. It reminds me a lot of the how the unreleased Tyrian GBC port looked, even the screen layout looks similar with the right-hand side status interface. I love the soundtrack on this, too, it's really spaced out.

Gameplay:

It's a pretty classic vertical shmup, it has a really oldschool feel to it. There is an array of I think something like 8 different weapons to choose from and level up. It if you collect the same type twice in a row your weapon levels up. If you collect a different one you stay at the same weapon level, but change the weapon. I like this system much more than what for example Cyber Core does, which levels you down again when changing weapons.

Difficulty:

It's a bit easier in the beginning, and throughout most levels than your usual home console or arcade shmup, and it doesn't have one hit deaths, there is actually a life bar which is a plus. The bosses can get really tricky though, the first boss was already surprisingly difficult. It's all doable with a bit of practice.

Conclusion:

Conclusion:

It's a nice little shmup, if you like the genre and want to have something for a handheld device that fits the decription, look no further. But other than this particular platform having an undersupply of classic shmups, this doesn't really stand out that much. It's still a fun game worth a look.
