I think Slave of God, by increpare (aka Stephen Lavelle), is a masterpiece. Pretty much everyone agrees that it is at least remarkable (e.g.: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5), though Brendan Keogh perhaps described the game's workings best. Though it specifically takes the player through a night at what is presumably a night club, the feelings it evokes align with many specific types of night out, when the flow of time is at once too fast and too slow. It achieves realism by pursuing realism of emotion and experience, rather than photorealism of graphical rendering. The game is not interested in rendering the facial expressions of the club-goers or the textures of the speakers accurately, because those have no bearing on one's club experience; that experience is personal and internal, as the game realizes. Slave of God is a remarkable acheivement, and it's also free to download.
