O.K. dudes, the time has come to really get radical. You and the rest of "Da Boys", T&C's famous group of skate and surf crazies, can kick out and pull off some awesome maneuvers together. Whether you're jammin' the ramps, jumping the cracks, riding the rails or just laying back tall, the skate action is hotter than hot!

Great Colors And Jingle Supplement The Nostalgia For A Mostly Frustrating Gameplay
This review is for the Nintendo Entertainment System version

Preliminary: It's probly the nostalgia talking (this was one of the only games at my grandma's house, I think an uncle had left the NES there with some games when SNES got big), but the title screen is so beautiful, love the colors, and I love that it's not a jingle--just the calm sound of waves hitting the shore. Listened to it quite a while. Waves of static <3 enter image description here

I love the tune! It's hypey and so 80s. I got past the first round of skating real quickly, but I picked the true Wood and Water Rage rather than just the skateboarding. When I was a kid, I was soooo proud of when I got the hang of the skateboarding part, like when I realized how to do an actual jump. So that's probly what helped me get through Round 1 so quickly.... but the surfing part I never got down. And I see I'm not alone in that. So I typically would just do the skateboarding on an on. To properly give a playthrough though, I'm trying to get through all the unique levels (it's a re-cycler) of both skating and surfing. Here goes nothing.

Okay, yea, even with …

Okay, yea, even with the help of this video, I cannnotttt get surfing fully down. I got the jumping off the top down, but it's all just so wonky

I recognize that the game's controls are technically tight and responsive, but just frustrating. So I eventually wound up giving up and switching to just skating after all heh. Already on Round 3 I'm wondering if the rounds are repeating? I love when I hit a ramp right, I like the Ollie feature, I love the Look even of the surf area but all of it, and a good jingle. Has a lot of what makes a good game, plus I have nostalgia for it, but the surfing parts are frustrating, and the skateboarding part has lots of cheapshots/pop-outs, but I still really enjoy the skateboarding parts. (for a bit)

Look: 8/10 For anyone not familiar with the Look (this is the skateboarding parts) enter image description here

Great colors overall, I like the characters I used to love playing as the masked guy, and cute stereotypically Californian objects flying at you.

Sound: 8/10 Love the title screen ambience and the jingle, even if it's repeated a lot.

Play: 6.5/10 The skateboarding part is fun but gets old after a few rounds (I wound up doing 5 Rounds and realizing that even if it's not the exact same level, it's just repeating the same structures so might as well be), and the surfing part is outright awful. But the skateboarding is fun and would be worth playing with my brothers when they're over next since we have nostalgia for it. It kinda reminds me of the Cap'n Crunch game and other promotional games included with cereals and whatnot where it has a neat idea but is stuffed into a small amount of actual content. Somehow we kids still find a way to make the most of it! After all, learning the quirks of the gameplay took me years even just to Ollie and whatnot! Like me with Nickelodeon 3d Movie Maker not realizing there are multiple angles in each scene after years of playing it lol. Opened so many doors!

Feel: 8/10 Can't deny the nostalgia here, and the Title Screen, Look, and Sound contribute to a strong Feel.

Attachment: 7.5/10 I'm confident I will play this again just to show my brothers/remind them what it was like, and show the tips I now have for surfing. But, I also bet we will only play it for 10-15 mins ha. Each of us do a few rounds in the skateboarding, then each try and fail at surfing, then move on :-p

Overall: 7.6/10
