I played this game after completing the Danganronpa series and looking for something similar. It's very similar in many ways, but I liked some parts even more in YTTD than in Danganronpa. First, you need to know that after each chapter, one person who is seen as least useful has to die by majority vote.

The age difference makes the characters feel more different, there are two children in the game, and this creates some tense moments in the trials because of the age difference not everyone is seen as equals. Some people see them as the most useless persons, while others see these individuals as more worthy of protection because they barely had a life of their own and got put into a killing game.

I love the characters in Danganronpa, but there were a few that I didn't care that much about when they died. In YTTD, every death felt very hard whether it was a very likable character or a misunderstood one.

It's also a plus that you have different routes depending on who you vote for in the trials. For me, the vote I had to pick in one of the trials was one of the hardest choices I had to make in games (one of them was at the end of one shot for me).

The trials are also very well done, and the music just makes these scenes even better. I highly recommend this game to any detective fan and am sure you will have at least one scene that will really hit you.

This game quite literally changed my life. The complexity and personality of the characters, as well as simply the mechanics of the game are something I've never seen before. Wow.
