A few minutes at the GameStop kiosk completely killed this game for me, even at ten years old.

Whereas Star Fox 64 was the epitome of cool (that title screen, Corneria, Sector Y, Fox's voice, etc) with a healthy helping of cheese, Star Fox Assault feels cynical to me - like a straight-to-DVD release. Like The Little Mermaid 2. Nothing hits. Bland as hell environments, enemies, visual/sound design, and gameplay. Does anybody like shooting bugs?? (EDF doesn't count) The incredible music from 64 is used willy-nilly, with no buildup or payoff. You can't just cash in on Koji's motifs 🤬 that's cheating

Also, I used to shoot bombs in 64 just to watch them explode. I was curious to see how the ante would be upped... they seem to have based the B-button ordinance on the memory of a bowl of barely-sauced spaghetti.

Anyway, I've played the first two levels, and the only thing keeping me interested is the voice acting - almost every single line has me AGOG.

I can't believe this game generally scored above 70%.

if i was Nintendo I'd be pissed at Namco
