Mach Rider is a futuristic driving video game created by Nintendo. It was first released on November 21, 1985 for the Nintendo Family Computer in Japan. The game received a North American release in mid-1986 as part of the second wave of NES releases by Nintendo. On March 15, 1987 it was released in Europe and Australia. In July 2007 a modified version was released on the Wii's Virtual Console, which allowed designed tracks to be saved. Read less

A Gimmick with a somewhat Decent game.

I spent more than a week, trying to understand to how to play this game on my own. Found out this game was made for an American 80s Action Gimmick, and the game has a lot of stupid design choices but can be absolutely playable.

I spent more than a week, trying to understand to how to play this game on my own. Found out this game was made for an American 80s Action Gimmick, and the game has a lot of stupid design choices but can be absolutely playable.

My entire playthrough didn't make me feel like I'm in control of what's happening on the screen, and every time I do a slide I feel like I'm gonna get off the road, The Speed adjuster is a good Idea, but the limited controls made me wanna smash the controller.

This game wanted to be Big with Gimmick, advanced controls, Gameplay, and Graphics, It wanted to be a game Ahead of it's time, but in return It made itself an average NES game in the console's Library.

Mach Rider is an honestly impressive little racer on the NES with a high post-apocalyptic concept that not many games on that system at the time had to offer.

In the year 2112, you are the mysterious racer Mach Rider. Racing from sector to sector in search of survivors, you speed the streets and take down obstacles and invading enemies of various strengths. The bike in question has four different gears for speeds that must be managed appropriately, and has a machine gun that gets replenished when enemies are rammed into hazards and destroyed as a result.

It's possible to complete the game without destroying many invaders, but the game's roads are already super treacherous that it helps to take them down. There are many twists and turns, along with oil and water and icy roads that slip the player and rocks and oil drums and cars (that approach from a handy rearview mirror!) that will destroy the player. The player has lives but not too many to make mistakes, so they'll have to manage gears accordingly so their speed doesn't destroy them.

There are about ten stages in the Fighting Course with the player able to select either one of two stages, an interesting level of replayability. In the Endurance and Solo courses, the player will simply have to reach a certain distance in an amount of time. There's even a design mode that allows the player to create their own stages, which by this year is honestly impressive.

Mach Rider is a fun little spin on racing games with a cool post-apocalyptic concept that helps age this title better than other NES games at the time.
