Fun Little Shooter, But Minimal Substance
This review is for the Game Boy version

Solar Striker is a fun shooter for the GameBoy, but it's not very deep. The weapon upgrade system is perfectly linear (each upgrade just makes your shot faster or stronger) and there are no choices to be made. The game is pretty easy, but I'm not that experienced in the shmup genre and was appreciative of the difficulty level. There's six levels and all of them can be completed in under 20 min (if you don't lose). Give it a try if you are very new to shmups or if you like the gameboy. It's worth a couple hours of your time.
