I played this game quite a bit back in the 90s but I don’t believe I ever beat it. This time was different. I really love this game. The visuals, sound, music, voice acting, large map to explore, customizable spaceships… they all appeal to me. I played through the storyline but also spent a fair amount of time engaging with regular missions in order to earn credits with which to upgrade my ship or buy a new ship entirely.

After moving on from the starter ship Taurus into the Orion, I eventually upgraded to the Centurion. (I regret not at least trying the Galaxy ship.) At that point it didn’t take long to be able to afford every last upgrade available, at which point my ship was “finished.” When the later missions started to become quite difficult indeed (damn asteroids), there was nothing more I could do to improve my chances other than get good.

I had a great time replaying this game and am looking forward to continuing in the expansion, Righteous Fire.
