Timmy and his friend, Jaime go into Timmy's father's lab to watch a movie on the big screen. Little do they know that the big screen is actually a time machine. When Timmy touches the remote they are both sucked into prehistoric times. Now in order to return home they must reclaim a time machine fuse that was stolen by some Neanderthals who go by the name of "The Rockies". The Rockies are also looking to destroy DinoCity, so two dinosaurs named Rex and Tops decide to help out the two human children in their fight against the Neanderthals.

First Console Game To Truly Feel Like The Mid 90s To Me
This review is for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System version

Preliminary: It sure is pretty for 92. And the music is great. I wish you could move faster and that the level design was more enjoyable. And that it used more of the SNES controller/capabilities.

The music continues to be really great. It reminds me of Crash Bandicoot, Rugrats, and Humongous Entertainment all at the same time. Some of the movement is clunky but for the most part it is a type of Play I enjoy: straightforward SNES platformer. Not sure why there are 2 doors at the end of each area, I could be taking the long way I dunno lol. But I'm on Stage 3 (apparently of 7) and enjoying it so far.

The gimmick of getting off the dino and getting back on it, to either reach higher places or fit into places, is well gimmicky, fun to an extent, but not very imaginative nor imaginatively used (so far).

At first I was very unsure of people's claims it's a Super Mario World ripoff, and I still don't think that's accurate, but I see more and more similarities e.g. the rotating platform that moves you along in a part of Stage 3 a la the Fortress bosses …

At first I was very unsure of people's claims it's a Super Mario World ripoff, and I still don't think that's accurate, but I see more and more similarities e.g. the rotating platform that moves you along in a part of Stage 3 a la the Fortress bosses in SMW. The slow and delayed movement, sometimes outright missing a press, and the occasional SNES slowdown a la the NES flicker from too many sprites are starting to weigh this down. But I am oddly hooked, during an era I hadn't been clicking with platformers as much, and this will surely get a 3 star or higher. Maybe cuz teh difficulty level is getting more of my era rather than the brutal NES era heh.

I will play this a bit more tomorrow and see if it's worth pushing through to the end. I'm already about halfway soooo I probly will lol smh

Day 2

Alright screw it imma just admit it, despite the low ratings, I like this lol. It's imperfect, sure, but it's an early example of what I am excited for in the SNES and PS1 eras, and the music is great and very Crash Bandicooty. This very well may get a 4 star after all and not just be another 3 star 92 game :-p

But ugh why did so many NES and SNES games ignore the known fact there were sprite limitations/issues? I'm at Stage 6, but the sprite overload slowdowns and clunky/missed clicks might burn me out and move this back down to a 3. We shall see. Tbh if it weren't for the great music, by this point I probly already would've stopped. Because the level designs and settings are getting repeated more and more

OK stage 6 is just getting ridiculous. Maybe I'll return to this tomorrow. Even if I don't finish it, I'll let the individual ratings determine if it gets a 3 or 4. (Oh I just peaked at a playthrough and seems this might actually be the last stage). Bahaha turns out it's one of the last screens, in fact. Let me take a braek and finish this up.

Uff just when I thought I couldn't take it anymore, frustrated with missed button presses during slowdowns etc and the very high level of difficulty (I did not have to resort to cheating tho! Just some savestate abuse), I hit the final boss.

And uff, with just one hp left, I beat it! Good ending music, short but neat enough cutscene that helped bolster its chances for 4 star with it reminding me of Swagman and other PS1/SNES era games. Even with its flaws, and it is very flawed with its delayed/missed controls and slowdown parts, I played it to the end and it kept feeling like the first of a kind I have been anxiously awaiting. enter image description hereenter image description here

Look: 8.5/10 Tho some Genesis and Amiga games had this Look before this, this was the first of an era that I just can't describe, but of those full body sprite platformers like that Turbografx game with the big head characters lol, but it felt like it was officially the style I expected and remembered from childhood.

Sound: 8.5/10 Consistently good tunes

Play: 8/10 Definitely the most flawed aspect of the game, but I still played it to the end and was hooked. In fact, I first had this as a 7.5, but I can't deny it. It's an 8 even with its flaws. I am a sucker for platformers and I was definitely hooked.

Feel: 8.5/10 So many childhood games came to mind.

Attachment: 8/10 Not likely I would play this to the end again (then again, I thought that this time too lol and here I am), but it would make the list of early SNES platformers to replay.

Overall: 8.3/10

Completion: Main Story

Playtime: ~1h 45m

Beat as the girl. I'm not a big fan of platformers so I barely tolerated playing this. I liked the boss fights but the rest of the game was painfully difficult; never would have put up with it without save states. It has the type of unforgiving platforming and enemy placement that requires memorization to beat, while the bosses were relatively easy. I did not find out that the kid could freeze enemies until the last level where you are forced to use it. There are some cool features in the game but it is a fairly generic Super Mario World ripoff, and does not even have the world map and themed worlds.
