Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain, perhaps in response to the graphically parallel and similarly paced PSX Syphon Filter titles, makes significant alterations to the series's formula. Sadly, Eidetic (Sony Bend) threw out much of what made the original titles so damn fun. Not playing as Gabriel Logan is an MGS2-esque bummer, and the character customization options are so sparse they might as well just not be there. The game is made for online-only cooperative play, and the mission goals are designed around that mechanic. Unfortunately, the servers no longer exist, so one must play the game alone, which makes many goals extremely difficult to accomplish. The story is also lame, and somewhat inessential to the Syphon Filter fiction. If you want to play a ps2-era Syphon Filter, i suggest Dark Mirror or Logan's Shadow, which are phenomenal games. That said, TOS is the most unique entry in the series, and is dirt cheap, so if you're a die-hard fan, it may be worth the 3.99 Amazon purchase.
